A drop cloth or newspaper
100 grit sandpaper
Painters tape
Old Bike

Before you start, make sure you’ve set up a painting station in a well-ventilated place, with newspaper or a drop cloth. Be sure to read the Krylon® labels for safety and application instructions, and follow them accordingly.

Sand the frame and fork, to remove any dirt, chipping paint or other imperfections. If there are any sticker labels on the frame, remove them. If you plan on painting your bike helmet, sand that as well and remove any stickers. Use a rag to wipe down the surfaces after sanding.

Tape off the portions of the frame/fork that you won’t be painting. A good rule of thumb? If there’s not paint on it already, don’t add any. You’ll want to cover up the V Brake posts, any bearing surfaces, and anywhere with screw threads, to make sure that everything still fits when you’re putting the bike back together.

It’s important to shake each Krylon® can for at least two minutes directly before you use it. Since you’ll be painting with the Fluorescent Lemon Yellow first, shake it thoroughly. When it’s time to paint your helmet, do the same to the can of Fluorescent Red-Orange.

Spray down the fork and frame using Fluorescent Lemon Yellow. For best results, apply light, even coats in a sweeping motion with slight overlap, starting and ending each stroke off the piece you’re spraying. Then, do the same to the helmet with Fluorescent Red-Orange. Allow the project to fully dry and then put the bike back together and get ready to ride!
